Case Study - FireClass solves complicated fire alarm installation for TopShop, TopMan and Miss Selfridge stores

Date03/21/2013

KM Alarms Limited was approached by J Thorn Electrical to supply and commission an addressable fire alarm system for one of their "partners" projects in East Kilbride Shopping Centre.

The technical considerations for the tenant’s fire system were that the project was to combine 3 shop units’ fire compartments with separate customer entrances and a shared staff area, coupled with two way interfacing with the landlords fire and PAVA systems to enable site-wide alert, evacuation, cause and effects and shutdowns to be incorporated within the stores.
The system requirements were for an extremely flexible open protocol addressable fire alarm as the stores systems are to be maintained and serviced by Arcadia stores nominated service provider.

KM Alarms Limited had no hesitation in choosing FireClass as the perfect option as FireClass provides a market leading solution which was ideal for maintaining the brand image of these stores as well as providing an unparalleled solution for safeguarding lives as well as fire detection for their business.

Utilising the FireClass 32 Zone Single 1 Loop Addressable Fire Alarm Control Panel (FC32) in conjunction with the addressable loop powered field modules and loop powered audio visual fire alarm sounder beacon (FC410LPAVR) it was straight forward to apply different plant and mechanical shutdowns to suit the store layout.
Rafts and open areas had the black FireClass Fire Alarm Addressable Optical Smoke Detectors (FC460P) installed to provide smoke detectors that were in keeping with the Topshop and Topman brands whilst also providing a perfect fire detection solution.
A repeater panel was specified as having to appear in the window display, so a small, fully functioning and aesthetically pleasing repeater panel was required.  KM Alarms Limited chose the FireClass 64 Zone Addressable Fire Alarm Repeater Panel (FC64RA) as the perfect fire panel for their requirements.
As with all major store projects, the consultants are able to alter specifications i.e. shutdowns, smoke curtains etc. as required to integrate with the existing fire strategy of the shopping centre being linked to.  The sounder beacons were ideal due to the sounder and beacon having separate output groups.

Ken Marriott, Executive Director for KM Alarms Limited said, “KM Alarms are extremely confident that FireClass has the capability to incorporate ANY cause and effects required. FireClass is highly cost competitive and all the while looks great!”

A complicated fire alarm installation was made easy with FireClass.

Oxspring Technical was the design consultants and Quinn Interiors the project contractor for Arcadia Group on this Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge store project.
